Andrew Ewing and Miranda Pollard, plus purveyors of Australian country rock Davey Craddock and The Spectacles,

It's a magic venue, especially in early autumn, with the river just outside and the lights blinking on the water

Benedict has been organising shows in interesting venues since 2005
His first CD launch was held at the Old Perth Boys' School - one of the earliest public buildings still standing in the centre of Perth,
its neo-gothic heights providing a good acoustic setting.
Other nice venues in which Benedict has organised shows include the North Perth Town Hall, the Kurb Gallery,
and town halls in Toodyay and Darlington
Benedict's quiet storytelling music is well suited to these acoustically attractive places, with their histories of prior
use as school rooms, dancing halls, card-playing dens and exhibition spaces
More of these shows are planned for the future

2011

The year in review

"... a very unique kind of guy, a photographer of Perth suburbia, and ultimately an important contributor to the Western Australian music scene as he continues to involve other musicians with his work."
-Rave Magazine

Here's a round up of some of the things that have happened in 2011:

- Opening for James Reyne in Two Rocks

In February Harry, Lorraine and I played as a three-piece supporting James Reyne, at outdoor concert in Two Rocks.
We've never played to around four thousand people before and it was a lot of fun.
We threw some free CDs out from the stage, but I'm not sure that some of the children who who got them knew what they were.

- Shows in Maylands, Toodyay and Darlington

In March I played a solo show at the Maylands Yacht Club.
It was a magic night looking over the Swan River.
Jeremy Passmore filmed the show, and we've put videos of twelve of the songs on the web.
They're on the video page of benedictmoleta.com if you're keen.
Most of this is older solo material, which hasn't been played live for several years.

In May the band drove to Toodyay to play a show at the Country Women's Association hall.
A few of our mates from Perth came to the show, as well as a few people from Toodyay.
It was a good opportunity to play new band material, which we'd recorded for the forthcoming album, but hadn't had many opportunities to play live.

In September I played a show with Bill Darby and Andrew Ewing at the Darlington Hall. This is new material which will be recorded on the next album.
The hall is a great music venue and we made the most of the nice big stage. It was very nice driving back down the hill into Perth after the show, with the car full of gear and my buddies on the bench seat next to me.

- New album: White Marble Heyday

The new album "White Marble Heyday" was released in October, with a CD launch at The Bird in Northbridge.
The album features long term guitarist collaborators Jonathan Brain and Daniel Marano, plus the normal band, Harry Kneen on bass, Sam Scherr on guitar, Lily Sumich on drums and Lorraine Sumich on keys. Jonathan and the band played at the launch and we all had a nice time.

Drum media said "White Marble Heyday is another chapter in the Benedict Moleta canon and, yet again, speaks to the human experience with remarkable insight and intimacy."

Here's a link to a recent review of the album, in Brisbane's street press Rave Magazine.

The new album is available for download from

- Cyclic Defrost article

I did a fairly lengthy interview with Cyclic Defrost magazine, which you can read online here.

- Perth Music Interviews magazine

Over the course of 2011 I put together a collection of interviews with twelve people involved in the Perth music scene.
The interviews were printed and turned into a fifty page magazine, which I launched at The Kurb Gallery in Northbridge in December.
There's more information about the magazine at benedictmoleta.com. You can order it for $5.

Here's a link to a review of the magazine on thethousands.com.au
